Physiotherapy Treatments

No Injury Too Big or Small

Having treated professional footballers for the past 15 years, the last 10 months since leaving Portsmouth Football Club has been a very interesting change. I have seen a variety of different complaints, from a wide spectrum of the population at my clinic in Cosham, Portsmouth.

I've been fortunate enough to have been able to assess, treat and rehabilitate members of the public from golfers, runners, ultra athletes, tri athletes, pistol marksmen, gardeners, gym members to an international baton twirler. A large section of my patients are people from the general population who have general physical problems with aches and pains. My patients have come in an assortment of the public ranging from a 6 year old school child to a very active 84 year old.

Around Christmas 2010 I began treating and rehabilitating patients at the Activhealth gym on Langstone Technology Park, Langstone, Havant. The icing on the cake is that I have asked to become part of the England football medical team. Gary Lewin the England head physiotherapist phoned me last November and has asked me to work with the England medical set up at youth team level. Gary Sadler, 30/06/11

What to Expect

The first appointment is an assessment of the patient's problem, after which a treatment plan will be implemented. If the patient requires rehabilitation, a programme can be written & the patient monitored back to the desired level of fitness.

Don't forget, there is no injury is too big or too small.

Assessment

This is the basis of formulating a treatment plan.

To begin with you will be asked a variety of questions, such as questions, concerning your lifestyle, occupation, sports and hobbies etc. Your past medical history, and the history of your present condition/complaint.

Following this there will be a physical examination where we will look at the relevant aspects concerning your problem which may include.

  • Posture
  • Biomechanics
  • Joint ranges
  • Muscle strength
  • Neurological components
  • Strength and stability
  • Core strength and stability
  • Palpation to assess stiffness and pain

The physical examination although in some aspects, may be a little uncomfortable is performed under the control of the patient. There will be constant communication and feedback between the physiotherapist and the patient. Don't forget we are here to help you and not hurt you. We do understand that most patients who come to see us are already experiencing some pain.

After the subjective and objective (physical) examination the physiotherapist will discuss his findings with you. During this discussion they will explain how they would like to approach treating you and formulate a treatment plan. These discussions will be on going throughout your physiotherapy sessions.

An assessment lasts 45 mins, and is £40.00.
